August Reading

Yes, we have some truly grand stories here this August, about the nobles and heroes of Middle-earth. But we can also offer wonderfully entertaining stories that deal with less august characters of Tolkien's world, who bring Middle-earth to life from the perspective of the lowborn and even the dishonourable instead...

If you are just a casual visitor of the site, check out the newest stories in the Public Archive and the latest published Challenge:

  • "Paper" by Dawn Felagund:
Curufin, fifth son of Feanor, escapes to the realms of fantasy to escape the pressures of his family and discovers the thrill of first love.

  • "Many Guises and Many Names" by Gandalfs_apprentice:
This collection of drabbles and short pieces focuses on Aragorn, the people who knew him, and/or the significance of his life. Some are funny, some are sad; some deal with great events, some are family portraits...

  • "Where Love Is" by toastedcheese:
Arwen revisits Imladris's oldest library and discovers an aging manuscript testifying to forgotten love. Maedhros/Fingon.

And don't forget to let the authors know if you enjoyed their stories! If you are a member of the HASA Readers Club that's really easy: you can simply leave a comment!

More stories, august or more down to earth can be found among the published Challenges: Take a look at the "New Members Challenge" and read what some of our new members have to contribute to our August Reading 2006!

  • "Of Pipeweed" by Alariel Silverstar:
This is about Merry and Pippin and What they find in the Flotsam and Jetsam of Isengard.

  • "Of Cliffs and Kin" by Evils Hero:
Fingon's thoughts on finding Maedhros where he hangs from the cliffs of Thangorodrim.

  • "Glimmer in a Riddle" by Mar'isu:
Gollum's thoughts during a particularly nasty riddle in The Hobbit.

If you are a member of the Readers Club, we can offer you still more stories to read for lazy August weeks! Because members of the Readers Club can read all stories in the General Stories section of the HASA Writers Workshop!

For example:

  • "Summoned" by Agape4Gondor:
Upon the Cormallen - a quadrabble.

  • "Divided they Fall" by Chemistry:
Follows the path of Berethor (OC), soldier of Gondor and how he and his comrades played their part in the War of the Ring leading up to battle of Erebor. Originally wrote for my family to explain a few other bits in the history of Middle-earth. Comments are most welcome, be critical if you dont mind. WIP!

  • "Dragonfall" by Dwimordene:
In Dale, the fall of the dragon is a day of celebration. One that even strangers can partake of.

And remember, members of the Readers Club can post comments to stories instantly! (Oh and there's more: members of the Readers Club have access to many other nifty reading tools and toys, such as alerts for their favourite stories and authors and much more.)
