No Man's Woman
Challenge Details
Tolkien wrote of many brave women, but many of the stories are just sketches, and many others are seen primarily through the male gaze—as wives of..., as daughters of..., and as sisters of....
But what about the other side? What about women in themselves? The idea of this challenge is to focus on what they can give/do in their own right and for their own sakes, or at least, not fundamentally for the sake of their particular men.
Show us the women of Middle-earth—in war or peace, show their achievements, their accomplishments, what they did for Middle-earth, for their people in general, as women, and not as somebody's woman. There is no limit on what viewpoint you can adopt, so long as it is feminine.
This challenge ends on August 19, 2004.
