Elf can hear the Stones, A?
Challenge Details
What were Gimli's thoughts when Legolas relays the messages of the stones in Hollin. It seesm a bit odd that the Professor would leave that out, considering the animosity between the Dwarves and Elves at that time. Stones seem to be the dominion of Dwarves and Elves might see their "working" as damaging Arda. Yet, here Legolas hears the stones' lament that the ones who worked them are gone now.
'But the Elves of this land were of a race strange to us of the silvan folk, and the trees and the grass do not now remember them. Only I hear the stones lament them: deep they delved us, fair they wrought us, high they builded us; but they are gone. They are gone. They sought the Havens long ago.'
And yet, Gimli remains silent. What were his thoughts? Could this be a starting point (for both of them) for their future friendship?
