Merry, in FOTR when the hobbits are about to enter the Old Forest mentions having been inside the haunted place and refers to Frodo's also having been there. When did this happen? Was
Frodo alone, guided, or with a companion? Was it a hazing or coming of age experience? Did he possess the Ring at that time? If so, was it with him and what was its effect? Why did no one pursue Merry's comment further? Was it because they already knew the story, because it was too scary to think about, because present concerns preoccupied them...? Not even Frodo himself confirms or alludes to this previous adventure. Why? we wonders...
