WWI Poets Challenge

We Stand

1. We Stand

The City stands with banners high,
Proud against a darkening sky.
Many years we have fought and died
As widows wept and children cried,
At last we rest, our time draws nigh.

Evil closes as fell beasts fly
For love and land we fight and die.
Though darkness lies on every side
Good shall triumph.

Now with our bodies hope does lie,
The hosts send forth a chilling cry.
Remember us who did not hide
All those who now in peace abide,
Though darkness lies on every side
Good shall triumph.
