2. Author's Notes
As I was writing Tides, I found that, in order to keep all the dates straight in my mind, I needed to have a timeline of sorts. I thought that this might help you in case you have any questions.
2931 Aragorn, son of Arathorn II, born on March 1st.
2950 Finduilas, daughter of Adrahil of Dol Amroth, born.
2957 Aragorn begins his service to Thengel of Rohan and Ecthelion II of Gondor.
2976 Denethor II weds Finduilas of Dol Amroth.
2978 Boromir, son of Denethor II, born.
2983 Faramir, son of Denethor II, born.
2984 Death of Ecthelion II. Aragorn, knowing he is long overdo to return to the North, stays at the request of the dying Steward.
2985 Death of Denethor of plague. Boromir becomes Steward of Gondor at the age of seven.
2987 Aragorn weds Finduilas. He stays for several years in Minas Tirith to guide the young Boromir.
2988 Eleniel, daughter of Aragorn and Finduilas, born.
2990 Lalaith, daughter of Aragorn and Finduilas, born.
2993 Aragorn is summoned by Mithrandir to return to the North.
2993-2999 Aragorn travels throughout the land as a Ranger, visiting Finduilas and his family only sporadically.
3000 Aralas, son of Aragorn and Finduilas, born.
3006 Lissien, daughter of Aragorn and Finduilas, born. She is their last child.
3009 Aragorn and Mithrandir renew the hunt for Gollum.
3017 Gollum released from Mordor and is taken to Mirkwood by Aragorn. Mithrandir goes to Minas Tirith and reads the scroll of Isildur. He quickly begins to make his way back to the North.
4 Boromir sets out from Minas Tirith, in search of Aragorn. He leaves Faramir as his regent in Gondor. Finduilas, seeing the growing threat to Minas Tirith, takes her three daughters and departs to Dol Amroth.
24 Boromir arrives in Imladris late at night. He meets with his step-father, telling him that Gondor requires his counsel.
25 The Council of Elrond. The Fellowship of the One Ring is formed: Frodo Baggins, Samwise Gamgee, Meriadoc Brandybuck, Peregrin Took, Gandalf the Grey, Aragorn son of Arathorn, Legolas of Mirkwood, Gimli son of Glóin, and Boromir of Gondor.
16 Departure from Lothlórien. Galadriel gives the Elessar to Aragorn.
26 Breaking of the Fellowship. Death of Boromir; his horn is heard in Minas Tirith. Meriadoc and Peregrin are captured. Fear begins to overcome Minas Tirith.
1 Faramir, refusing to take up the Stewardship until there is proof of Boromir’s death, leaves his half-brother, Aralas, to guard Minas Tirith while he departs on an errand to Ithilien.
7 Faramir shelters Frodo and Sam at Henneth Annûn.
8 Frodo leaves Henneth Annûn. Aragorn, accompanied by the Dúnedain, Elladan, Elrohir, Legolas, and Gimli, takes the Paths of the Dead at daybreak.
9 Faramir leaves Henneth Annûn.
10 Gandalf rescues Faramir outside the Gates of the White City. That night, Faramir secretly looks into the palantir. Sauron, discovering the identity of Isildur’s Heir and his son, tricks Faramir into believing his foster-father is dead.
11 Faramir goes to Osgiliath.
13 The Pelennor is overrun. Faramir is wounded.
15 The Gates of the City are broken by the Witch-king. Aralas wounded. The Battle of the Pelennor.
25 The One Ring is destroyed. The passing of Sauron.
1 Crowning of King Aragorn Elessar of Gondor and Arnor.
10 Finduilas arrives in Minas Tirith with her three daughters, nephew Elphir, and niece Lothíriel. The Crowning of Queen Finduilas Ëarheri.
