The Remembrance of Trees

1. Memorials of vanished Joy

I remember the heydays of Valinor, the Days of Bliss. Years of the Trees they were also called, counting Time from the moment when my first silver bloom appeared.

People rejoiced in the golden and silver light my mate and I gave freely to all, standing on the Green Mound of Valmar.

Now our lifeblood pours fourth from the wounds Melkor’s black spear inflicted on us, and Ungoliant’s poison creeps through our veins.

Yet we will defy Death just a little longer – and may our fruit be a light in dark places, now that all other lights have gone out.
