- What's a Challenge?
- What's a Challenge, you may ask? Quite simply, when one writer says to another, "I dare you to write this story," and at least five others say, "You're on!"– that is a Challenge.
- Each Challenge has its own set of rules, its own deadline, a description, and (most importantly) a set of fics associated with it. Ever wanted to know how many different ways a story can be written? Click on a Challenge link and take a look.
- Some of these stories you may already have seen in the main archive, but others have never been submitted there. This means they can only be found here, in the Challenges section. So sit back, click on a link, and enjoy the read!
- How can I find out if Author X has a Challenge story?
- Use our Challenges Search page. There you can search for an author or for a particular challenge. Because Challenge stories are not necessarily archive stories, the two sets are kept distinct and have different searches.
- Why aren't there five fics showing up under a given Challenge? Didn't you say five people had to accept it?
- Yes, five people are required to accept a Challenge and write a fic. However, some fics are WiPs or the author has refused to authorize its being shown to the public–HASA respects the right of authors to control the display of their own stories, and so at their request, some stories simply are not shown.
- What's this "new fic!" warning? I thought there was a deadline.
- There is, but sometimes an author changes his or her mind about displaying a story (see question 3), or a WiP is updated. In these cases, we alert readers to new material.
- Why can't I bookmark these stories?
- Our bookmarks link to published stories only. If a challenge entry is published, you may bookmark it through the regular Stories pages.
- May I submit a Challenge fic even though I am not a member?
- All Challenges listed here are closed–their time limit has expired, and no new fics are accepted. If you wish to participate, please sign up as a member and join the fun!
- May I submit a Challenge to HASA members?
- The Challenges Manager is always happy to take suggestions. Please e-mail her with your nuzgûl, and she will consider it.
