The Return of the King, LoTR Appendix B, The Tale of Years: The Third Age
It was at this time [after the invasion]1 that the Stoors that had dwelt in the Angle (between Hoarwell and Loudwater) fled west and south, because of the wars, and the dread of Angmar, and because the land and clime of Eriador, especially in the east, worsened and became unfriendly. Some returned to Wilderland, and dwelt beside the Gladden, becoming a riverside people of fishers.Notes
The Return of the King, LoTR Appendix A, Annals of the Kings and Rulers: Eriador, Arnor, and the Heirs of Isildur: The North-kingdom and the Dúnedain
1 Tolkien gives the date of this migration as about 1356 in the Tale of Years (Appendix B), and 1409 in Appendix A. It is probable that the migration did not happen all at once, but occurred in waves, starting with the Battle between Arthedain and Rhudaur, and ending sometime soon after the Invasion of Arnor by the Witch-king.
