Walda, King of Rohan, slain by Orcs
Event Type: Genealogical
Age: 3rd Age - The Stewards
A late event in the aftermath of the War of the Dwarves and Orcs; see that entry for an overview:
11. Brytta. ... In his time there was war with Orcs that ... sought refuges in the White Mountains. When he died it was thought that they had all been hunted out; but it was not so.
12. Walda. He was king only nine years. He was slain with all his companions when they were trapped by Orcs, as they rode by mountain-paths from Dunharrow.

Orcs from the North trouble Rohan. King Walda slain by them (28611).
The Return of the King, LoTR Appendix B, The Tale of Years: The Third Age
It was in the days of Beregond that the War of the Dwarves and Orcs was fought in the Misty Mountains (2793-9), of which only rumour came south, until the Orcs fleeing from Nanduhirion attempted to cross Rohan and establish themselves in the White Mountains. There was fighting for many years in the dales before that danger was ended.

1 Though the Tale of Years (Appendix B) gives Walda's death date as 2861, it is listed as 2851 in Appendix A, with enough detail to suggest that 2851 is more likely correct.
