Aragorn tells Hama at Edoras that "Telchar first wrought it in the deeps of time." So how did it get from a dwarf of Norgrod in the Time of the Trees to Elendil?

I have come up with two possibilities, but I'd be interested to hear
others. I'd be even more interested to read the stories that went with the possible explanations.

When I foolishly mentioned this one to Dwim, she came up with her own Narsil nuzgul:
"how on earth did Aragorn come to be wandering about Bree with NO OTHER WEAPON except a priceless (and yet useless) family heirloom at just that moment?"
