I know many fanfic writers seem to have Imrahil as a widower by the time of the WotR, but there is no canon authority for this, is there? I looked in both LotR and HoME vol 12 and couldn't find any. Am I missing something?

There is no information on his wife at all, in canon.
I think it's common to widow him because, frankly, it makes him easier to deal with, gives some tragedy to the otherwise-fanonally-cozy family... Perhaps it's just become fanon convention.
I know I made him a widower in my story simply because I had too many characters to manage already and didn't want to create an original character to be his wife.
But no, there is no record in canon of who his wife was, the dates she was alive, or when she died.
