Is the first year of the Fourth Age (3021) counted as Year Zero or Year One? I'm trying to figure out whether someone born in 3021 would be 15 in the year 16 of the Fourth Age. RAKSHA

 

I would assume the Fourth Age would start with the year 1. All the other ages of Arda begin with 1 in the Tale of Years - and that makes sense, even if you're only basing it on a knowledge of RL calendars. Perfect example: the new millennium began in AD 2001 (not AD 2000, as all the hoopla that New Year's Eve might have suggested). HTH ~Nessime

 

Stupid calendars.... From Appendix D (it's near the end): "... but for the purposes of record in the Kingdom Fourth Age 1 was the year that began according to the New Reckoning in March 25 3021 old style." Cheers, Liz
