Location: Carn Dûm is at the westernmost edge of the Mountains of Angmar, which appear as short spur projecting to the west of the Misty Mountains according to the inside cover map in Unfinished Tales.
Description:
There is little information about Carn Dûm. Since Tom Bombadil told the hobbits about "the evil king of Carn Dûm in the Land of Angmar," it is evidence that Carn Dûm is a capital of that land.
FotR, Book I, Ch 8, Fog on the Barrow-DownsFrom Appendix A, there is indication that a stronghold of some type existed there, as during the Battle of Fornost the Witch-king was stopped "before he could gain the shelter of Carn Dûm."
