Event Type: Genealogical

Description:
An event in the War of the Last Alliance; see that entry for an overview:
Elendil, 1st High King of Arnor and Gondor in Middle-earth, dies; son of Amandil, last Lord of Andúnië in Númenor:
[Said Elrond,] 'I beheld the last combat on the slopes of Orodruin, where Gil-galad died, and Elendil fell, and Narsil broke beneath him....'
The Fellowship of the Ring, LoTR Book 2, Ch 2, The Council of Elrond
But at the last the siege was so strait that Sauron himself came forth; and he wrestled with Gil-galad and Elendil, and they both were slain, and the sword of Elendil broke under him as he fell. But Sauron also was thrown down, and with the hilt-shard of Narsil Isildur cut the Ruling Ring from the hand of Sauron and took it for his own.
The Silmarillion, Of the Rings of Power and the Third Age
Elendil ruled for about 121 years:
Elendil was very long-lived (being of [Eärendil's1] line).... The new realms of Arnor and Gondor lasted about 110 years before Sauron made his first attacks on them. The gathering of the Last Alliance, the march, battle and siege, lasted about 11 years.
