Story Summary

The road to the hallows above Minas Tirith is travelled only once a generation, on the twentieth birthday of the current steward's oldest son. Denethor leads Boromir down that scarce-walked path, and Denethor finally gives Boromir an honest answer to a question he asked as a child. Semi-finalist at the 2004 Mithril Awards for Best Story Focusing on Men and Best Vignette or Short Story.

But did Denethor really believe his answer or was he giving what was politically expected? This is my attempt to write Denethor giving a real answer, and so further explore the relationship between Boromir and Denethor.
