This is lovely, Meril. The constant call of Melian's glorious "other world" reminded me of the elves' sea-longing, and the reasons holding her to Doriath were beautiful and apt. I especially loved your last two paragraphs.
Your story hints just enough for me to think ahead and better understand her eventual abandonment of her one-time home. Very nicely done!
