General Comment

Very interesting and thought-provoking debate; it reminds me of the Athrabeth Finrod a Andreth. Elrond's regret is well founded. He did fail in his duty in that crucial instance, and rightly wonders what might have been. Gil-galad thinks he has the answers, but (unless Vairë told him), one wonders how..
