2. Author's Notes
This is a completely indulgent non-archival-quality short piece of fanfic written to exorcise some of my own demons (she said, shoving Denethor out of the way). The title is taken from the Rite I service in the Episcopal Church [Anglican church in the U.S.], one of my favorites at the end of a service: “Let us do all such good works as thou hast prepared for us to walk in…”
Having only just discovered Tolkien at 32, when I realized that people within fandom used nicknames, I adopted the nomenclature of Thevina from my character during the one game of Dungeons and Dragons I played with friends in Australia, where I lived for one blissful year as a sixteen-year-old. When one of my closest friends there committed suicide last year by jumping off the top level of a car park on her 32nd birthday, I added Finduilas to my name.
This is unabashedly and unashamedly for her.
The images of flying and the possible curse of depression being handed down genetically from Finduilas to Faramir I haveliberated brazenly stolen from lindorien’s stories (as well as the name of Herith). The ambiance of the House of the Stewards is taken directly from Altariel's A Kind of Valediction.
In another way, this is also for Lyllyn. I hope that the first part was quite erotic. And hetfic, at that!
