1. I

He has sailed away again.

He has done it before and will doubtlessly do it again, but this time something feels...

...different.

They say he has given the crown to our daughter, that he has relinquished his rule, that he has abandoned his kingdom...

Something squirms in my gut, something hateful and horrible, something that says this is the end, that I will never see him again.

I want to sob, to scream, to curse him forever and a day...

...but I cannot.

I loved him once, after all- loved him once with all the heat my heart could muster.

Now...

Now...

Hot, hateful tears of rage and misery roll down my face, bitter, blinding tears of sorrow and regret- my fingernails cutting bloody crescents into my that no longer feel.

He has sailed away again.

Oh, he has done it before, and he will doubtlessly do it again...

...but this time something feels different.

I loved him once, and now...

Now...
