Katydidn't - Thorongil is not the most observant person of human behavior at this point in his life, particularly political falseness. Brandir is his friend and he does not wish to think poorly of the Steward's family. It matters that he is practicing a type of falseness himself, but he is learning.
Lady of Tremaine - There will continue to be generous amounts of Thorongil in the next few chapters. Ivriniel is shallow, but harmless. Good thing she's marrying a sensible fellow. As for Imrahil, he will be a man much like his grandfather.
