Ok - I'm reeling from everything that happened in this chapter. Incredibly wonderful moments all through it - wish I could comment on everything but here are my two favorite lines!

Does Denethor know Thorongil's age?

No apologies from me on the stopping point! :P
Yes, Denethor knows Thorongil's age. Finduilas found out Thorongil's birthday in Ch. 16, Claims (about 2/3 through), and she has told several people, including Adrahil and Denethor, to correct the misconception that Thorongil is significantly younger than Denethor. Since Denethor knows how old Thorongil is and knows when he began serving Thengel, he knows Thorongil has been in Rohan or Gondor since he was 26.
While Denethor is ignorant of the childhood spent in Imladris, he still can see that Thorongil has spent almost half his life away from the North.
