Thank you, MiniFruitBat!
This was an excellent plot-filler covering tasks I've yet to see another person mention: inventory and training messengers!
I always found it strange to think that no one would have taken any forethought as to how the boys would be used. Especially because they are young, they would need not to be left to rely solely on their own judgment. I figured there had to be some minimal training so they would know where to go and what to do in all the chaos, when there wouldn't be time to stop and ask for basic directions.
Beautiful writing and characterizations as well. The boys act like real children, not saccharine suck-ups or with the rudeness that is billed as 'adorable' in too many stories.
Oh good, I'm very glad. I tried hard to avoid the extremes--little boys are rambunctious, but they're not always hellions and would be horrified to be 'sweet'.
