Great story, Regina! I love the poem you used for inspiration, and I also like the way this piece draws on "All Quiet on the Western Front." It's very thought-provoking how you use this largely dark, antiwar literature in the context of the Ring War, which (at least in LotR) is clearly cast as a necessary, defensive, "good" war against an unambiguous evil. I really enjoyed this.
