Writing this was an exercise in frustration, but also patience and nail-biting—excluding short, manageable vignettes, I think this is the first all OC story I've written since seventh grade or so. (We won't ask how many of the ones between fourth and seventh were ever finished, either.) I'm therefore grateful it held together to give a convincing (enough) depiction of life as a poor rural fishing community in hard times, since it often seemed like it just wasn't going to cohere!
It's one of those uncomfortable, many-layered stories that not only helps me understand of piece of Middle-earth's history better, but also to empathize more fully with all too many places in our own world.
Thank you! This has been something I've wanted to write for quite some time, in part because of the politics currently playing themselves out. I'm glad it's served as a means of reflection for you as well.

Dwim,
I can't quite tell you how much of an impact this story has made on me. What a wonderful job in bringing this community to life, with their struggles, their problems, the small mercies and hope that they would have to cling to to make it from day to day... They were all very real people with very real problems that, after just a few paragraphs, had become my problems as I read it. Thanks so much for such an awesome parable.

I know we've chatted over e-mail, but just to say: Thanks, Starlight! I'm really pleased that the story succeeded in pulling you in.
Take care,
Dwim
