Ah, a wonderful, terrifying series of Might-Have-Beens, Dwim. Alas a few didn't happen, and am SO glad others didn't! The thought of Isildur ever making war on his own is terrible, as is the idea of Isildur as the Lord of the Rings, even if Sauron is justly punished by being bound forever in the knowledge he may not leave the reality he knows now, and must suffer the idea of the Ring being another's. But the one of Isildur falling--it is so much in keeping with my own vision of Frodo's original intent--to sacrifice himself in that fashion that the Ring's destruction be confirmed.
