Journey's End

" . . . he left the hill of Cerin Amroth and came there never again as living man."
FOTR, Lothlorien
This is how I always thought it would end -- hoped it would end. Thank you for a lovely story!

This is hauntingly beautiful and so romantic. It links their betrothal on Cerin Amroth, the quote about Aragorn never returning as living men Jael also mentioned, and then Arwen laying herself down on the mound to die.
The grim years fell away and they were young...
I think it fits very, very well, that here "grim years" refers to Arwen as well, when she was so heartbroken and desperate at Aragorn's death.
It's a particularly graceful and lovely touch that the drabble is told from Aragorn's PoV.

Imhiriel,
That quote about Aragorn not returning to Cerin Amroth as a living man has always made me think of him returning for Arwen. I just never thought of how to put it until I wrote this for a birthday drabble. Thanks so much for your comments. I'm glad you liked that it was Aragorn's POV. ![]()
