I tried to work in a lot of different ways that this scenario could be read. Sweet, cynical, opportunistic, high-romance...

don't think I commented on this piece before. Better late than never:
It all seems so very realistic to me, this proud woman striking a deal so as to avoid living on her cousin's charity; the rules of inheritance that will leave land only to the male line; the once so strong mason now handicapped due to helping defend his city - and all of it so well described.
Gwynnyd, this is not even fiction, I'm sure it was hard reality for many women after many wars.
To put it short: Great ficlet!
