Very powerful and well-written vignette, Imhiriel, and I thought you used that wholly appropriate poem to great effect. I found his thoughts, his single-mindedness and especially his guilt, all plausible and fitting well to his actions. That he might be pursuing such violent and destructive ends not just due to vengeance, but also due to a need to obliterate or expunge that horrible feeling of guilt, adds an entire additional layer of understanding for me.
Wonderful scene-setting; I had a very clear sense of how the surroundings looked and sounded and felt, but the pacing is never bogged down by the descriptions. I loved the symbolism of the letters/Tengwar, too.

Wow!! What an amazing job. I don't believe I've ever read anything about Fëanor's state of mind when all these things were happening.
Thanks for putting them into words.

Your story is the second I read today to provide an insightful explanation for inexcusable actions.
The poem (one of my favourites, as it happens) is beautifully woven into your story. Fëanor's guilt, and his attempt at suppressing it and justifying his actions, explains so much.
Wonderful writing!
