How ironic...an excellent deviation from the standard Boromir-lives fic' in that Aragorn's life is essentially traded for his, making us wonder whether or not it would've been better for Boromir to fall.

I think most 'Boromir lives'-fics change that the Orcs do attack, but Boromir survives. Here, Boromir resists the Ring and the Orc attack doesn't happen, so the plot deviation can be much greater.
And technically this is even a happy ending... I mean, the Ring is destroyed, the West wins and all that.
