A Bit of Rope

Ch. 63: Unquenchable Hope

Those stunnig references to hope and pity shine through in this chapter- and that IS the message I think. That Frodo recognises Iaurel's absolute courage in withstadning the dreadful nature of his breaking, but it never reaches the deepest part of him and I love that bit where he sees Sam's face- well you made me cry I have to say- that moment was utterly utterly superbly written- delicate and intensely sad.

I love the Wenceslas reference -it worked so beautifully, and I have this enduring image of Gandalf not Gandalf, with a deep blue cloak billowing and striding acorss these rolling green hills- very much an illurtation for me- and seeing Iarel with his head bowed and in darkness in every way.  Absolutely beautifuly written and so deserving of far, far more comments. I hope a lot of folk are reading this- if not, they are the ones missing out here.

Revox -- thanks so much for commenting, I don't recall seeing your name among the various reviewers of this long tale before. Writers always greatly appreciate comments, and it is a treat to have caught a new readers eye and that you've found this chapter beautiful -- no credit here, just extrapolating from Frodo's essential character as presented by the Professor...and so I hope it will continue as the tale winds to its conclusion (soon.) Happy Solstice and welcome to the return of the Sun!

Frodo was not called "Iorhael" lightly or in vain, after all.  He had the heart to understand, in the end.  Blessed are all three.
