It's good to see that there are authors who understand the complexity of Denethor's character and do not portray him as a monster-father. Thanks for sharing!

Shandris, thanks for your kind comment to A Cold Night In June. It was fun writing Faramir, but more fun sneaking Denethor in. Glad you liked it.

It must have been quite the sight, watching these three scurrying about, trying desperately to catch all the sheets before they could be lost. And it must have been heartening to realize his father took the dream seriously.

Agape,
This is great stuff. Your author notes are spot on. I agree fully with your portrayal of Denethor. It's too easy to portray him as an ogre. PJ did too many things that were easy...
You've written an excellent piece that had me smiling and I thank you for posting it.

This would be just a sweet little Faramir vignette, were it not for the crucial detail you work in - that it's Isildur's writings (copies rather than originals, I was glad to note!) that Denethor has requested and that they've all been chasing around the courtyard. That gives even the moment of warmth between father and son at the end of the story a little edge...

Dear Agape4Gondor: This was a very enjoyable story. I particularly liked the ending--you did a good job of humanizing Denethor while keeping him in-character. I agree completely with your notes at the end. Thanks for writing and posting this story. Sincerely, Darkover
