The good will of all good men

A very interesting take on Faramir's fateful decision and its consequences. I always thought that Faramir had been given more latitude, as commander in Ithilien, to decide strangers' fates, but it could well be that the decree was absolute. I'm not sure whether it was the law of the land, or a recent ordered in response to the rising threat of Sauron and the proximity of Ithilien to the Ephel Duath and Mordor...
You convey Faramir's determination and increasing weariness very well.

LOVE the realism, Nath! This key bit of history, well told from the thinking-Gondorian's POV - and your Faramir is dead on perfect.

Thank you:-) It's an interesting slice of story to examine - even if I still haven't answered whether Denethor deliberately sent his son on a doomed mission (too much of what goes on in here is strictly inside Faramir's head to answer that).

At least he has the consolation he's not perhaps dying to no good purpose. And Mithrandir's parting words are with him. I'm glad he's not alone at that moment, though.
