The Silmarillion, Index
Olwë was the brother of Elwë Singollo or King Thingol. With his brother he led the largest host of Elves from Cuivienen, the Teleri. When Thingol became seperated and lost, Olwë took up the kingship of the Teleri and led them to the western coasts. There Ulmo found them, uprooted an island that had stood in the sea, and used this to draw the Teleri to Aman. Ossë followed and called them to stay, and Olwë and his people asked Ulmo to hold their voyage. He rooted the island in the Bay of Eldamar, and it was known as Eressëa. After many years, Ossë taught them ship-building and with those ships, Olwë led the Teleri to Alqualondë where he was their ruler and lived in a mansion of pearl at the Haven of the Swans. Olwë led his people against Fëanor and the Noldor in the First Kinslaying at Alqualondë.
His daughter, Eärwen, married Finarfin; and Olwë was forefather to Galadriel, Finrod, Aegnor, Angrod, and Orodreth.
From a remark by Finwë in the story of Finwë and Miriel (Morgoth's Ring, HoMe 10), 'Ingwë and Olwë beget many children in the bliss of Aman', it could be inferred that he had more children.
