From the Silmarillion map it appears that Hithlum is not part of Beleriand, but rather of the Lands to the North. It is placed at approximately the same latitude as Thangorodrim.

Description: "It was a fair land while the Siege of Angband lasted, although its air was cool and winter there was cold."
The Silmarillion, Ch 14, Of Beleriand and Its Realms

Hithlum was held by Fingolfin and Fingon. After Nirnaeth Arnoediad, the Battle of Unnumbered Tears, Morgoth gave the land to the Easterlings.

hith 'mist' in Hithaeglir, Hithlum (also in Nen Hithoel, a lake in Anduin). Hithlum is Sindarin in form, adapted from the Quenya name Hísilómë given by the Noldorin exiles (Quenya hísië 'mist', cf. Hísimë, the name of the eleventh month of the year. The Lord of the Rings Appendix D).
