Isen
Type: Rivers & Lakes
Region: Other Middle-earth
Meaning: Iron
Other Names Angren
Location: It arises from the western edge of the Misty Mountains, probably draining the slopes of Methedras (Last Peak - see The Treason of Isengard, HoMe 7). The river flows through Nan CurunĂr (Wizard's Vale), nearly straight south to bisect the Gap of Rohan, then making a 90 degree turn west. It eventually is joined by the River Adorn and flows to the Sea. it serves as the southern border of Enedwaith.
Description: The Isen came down swiftly from its sources above Isengard, but in the flat land of the Gap it became slow until it turned west; then it flowed on through country falling by long slopes down into the low-lying coast-lands of furthest Gondor and the Enedwaith, and it became deep and rapid.
