Herucalmo, husband of Tar-Vanimeldë took the sceptre upon her death, having ruled in her name during her life. Tolkien wrote "she gave little heed to ruling, loving rather music and dance..."
When Herucalmo unlawfully took the sceptre in his own name he called himself Tar-Anducal, "light of the sunset" or "light of the West." He died 20 years after his wife, and rule then passed to his son, the rightful King Tar-Alcarin.
